This Privacy Policy explains how School of Socrates (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our iOS app and related services at schoolofstoics.app (the “Service”).
1. Information we collect
- Account information. If you continue with a device account, we store a device identifier and an account id. If you use Sign in with Apple, we may receive an Apple user id, and — if you choose to share them — your name and email address.
- Profile & preferences. Display name, goals, mentor choice, onboarding progress, and optional reminder times you choose (morning practice and evening journal). Reminder preferences and scheduled local notifications stay on your device; we do not collect a push token.
- Content you create. Journal text you choose to share with your mentor, chat messages, meditation and lesson progress, and related practice activity (for example active days and streaks).
- Private journal drafts. Draft journal entries that you do not share may remain only on your device.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription, plan identifiers, and expiry information, synced via Apple and our payments partner (RevenueCat). We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Technical data. Basic server logs (for example IP address, timestamps, and error diagnostics) needed to operate and secure the Service.
2. How we use information
- To provide mentoring, lessons, meditations, journaling, and progress features.
- To schedule optional local reminders you enable for daily practice and journaling. These stay on your device.
- To generate personalized mentor replies and reflections using third-party AI processing (currently OpenAI), based on content you submit to the Service.
- To authenticate you, maintain your account, and enforce subscriptions.
- To improve reliability, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
3. AI processing
When you use mentor chat or related AI features, the text you send (and limited context needed to respond) is processed by our AI provider to generate a reply. Do not submit information you are not comfortable having processed for that purpose. We configure providers under our instructions as service providers; we do not sell your conversations.
4. Sharing
We share information only as needed to run the Service:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and In-App Purchases.
- RevenueCat — subscription status and purchase validation.
- OpenAI — processing prompts/content for AI mentor features.
- Hosting providers — infrastructure that stores and serves the Service.
- When required by law, or to protect the Service and its users.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Retention
We keep account and service data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account in the app, we delete your account and associated server-side content (subject to short-term backups and legal retention needs). Subscription billing records may be retained by Apple as required for commerce.
6. Your choices
- You can update profile information and reminder preferences in Settings.
- You can delete your account in Settings; this permanently removes server-side account data.
- You can cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- You may contact us to ask questions about this policy.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. International users
The Service may be hosted and processed in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to those locations.
9. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date.
