People seek refuge in the country, at the shore, and in the hills; yet at any moment they may withdraw into themselves. No retreat is quieter than a well-ordered soul.

A change of scenery can be restorative, but it cannot permanently solve an unsettled mind. If you carry constant comparison, unfinished arguments, and frantic habits into a quiet place, they arrive with you. Inner retreat is a skill you can use in a busy office, a noisy home, or a waiting room. Today, take five undistracted minutes. Sit still, notice your breathing, and let the next task wait without rehearsing it. You might also write down the few things that truly need attention, so the mind no longer has to hold them all at once. This is not escape from responsibility. It is a return to order, where you can see what matters and proceed without being driven by every thought. Practice makes that refuge easier to enter.
